Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) has announced a systematic investigation into a plane accident that occurred on a May 6 flight from Mandalay to Yangon. This announcement follows a viral video clip on social media showing an MNA aircraft engulfed in flames at Mandalay International Airport on the evening of the incident.
The aircraft, a Boeing XY-ALV carrying 143 passengers, was in the process of taking off when the pilot stopped on the runway due to an abnormal signal. At that moment, the plane’s brake system overheated, causing the left tyres to burst. Fortunately, the flames were extinguished in time, as reported by the airline.
The remaining wheels of the aircraft remained intact, allowing it to land safely at the northern end of the runway. The flight crew followed safety operating procedures, and all passengers and crew were safely transported to the airport terminal without any injuries. MNA also arranged alternative flights to transport the affected passengers to Yangon and apologized to the travelling public for the incident.
