Air-conditioned DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) special express trains are planned to run on the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route soon, an official of Myanma Railways (MR) told One News.
A formal letter has been submitted by MR to the relevant ministry to allow the route to be run, and it is planned to start running by the end of February, the official said.

If the new Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route is run, it will be convenient for passengers to travel by train. Currently, the matter on how many times the train will be operated on the new route and how much the fare will be set has been submitted. In addition, the No. 11 Up and No. 12 Down Yangon-Mandalay express trains have also been running at an increased speed since February 17, and therefore, schedules for them have been changed, the official said.
The DEMU carriages have been used on the Yangon-Bago route since October 2, 2024, and MR started using the carriages on the Yangon Circular Railway sections in November last year as well.
