Yangon’s air quality index (AQI) is at acceptable levels, without any significant health risks, said U Aung Khaing Soe, director of the Yangon Region Department of Environmental Conservation.
He made the remarks while conducting measurements at Yangon General Hospital and Yangon Electricity Corporation offices on March 19 to determine the air quality in Yangon. Air quality is measured by continuously monitoring six types of air pollutants: PM 2.5, PM 10, NO 2, SO 2, CO, and O 3, and calculating the air quality index, also known as AQI.
This measurement aims to establish daily monitoring procedures to reduce high respiratory PM 2.5 levels.
