The U Bein Bridge in Amarapura Township, Mandalay, has been temporarily closed due to minor damage caused by the earthquake. The central pier railings on the bridge were damaged, and some of the bridge’s lower pillars and lower part of the brick resthouse in the middle of the bridge had a crack.
Therefore, the U Bein Bridge has been temporarily closed since March 29, and it is expected to reopen only after the damage is repaired.
One News’s Ko Wai Yan Htet Win, who is covering news on the ground, reported on the damage to the U Bein Bridge that the current temporary closure of the U Bein Bridge has affected the income of the nearby bird boat operators and some shops due to the lack of visitors.
In addition to the damage to the U Bein Bridge, some famous pagodas in the township such as Pahtodawgyi, Kyauk Tawgyi, Taung Min Gyi and Shwe Gu Gyi were also damaged according to the locals.
U Bein Bridge, which was started to be built in 1849 and completed in 1851, is the longest teakwood bridge in the world.
