The Office of the Commander in Chief of Defense Services announced on April 2 that, out of compassion and understanding for the people of the entire country affected by the earthquake, to speed up relief and rehabilitation works, and to maintain peace and stability, the Tatmadaw declared a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to 22, 2025.
With the aim of lasting peace nationwide and further advancing the peace process, the Tatmadaw issued a total of 22 ceasefire announcements from December 21, 2018, to December 31, 2023. On September 26, 2024, the State Administration Council announced an invitation to resolve the political issue through political means.
During the period of the temporary ceasefire, ethnic armed groups and other armed groups were warned not to disrupt or damage communication routes used by the public, harm the lives and property of the public, attack the camps of security forces serving in the security and law enforcement functions, disrupt or attack military headquarters, or gather forces, prepare groups, or expand territory that would undermine peace. The Tatmadaw warned that if they do so, the Tatmadaw will take necessary countermeasures to protect the public.
The extremely powerful current earthquake that occurred on March 28 and subsequent aftershocks have damaged roads, bridges, and buildings in the affected areas, causing deaths and injuries to people. As a result, the state is actively carrying out relief, rescue, and rehabilitation activities due to the damage and loss.
