The office buildings and staff housing damaged by the Mandalay earthquake must be strengthened with steel structures to withstand aftershocks, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin said.
He made the remarks at a coordination meeting on the renovation of office buildings of the Ministry of Energy affected by the Mandalay earthquake and construction of temporary offices held at the Ministry of Energy in Nay Pyi Taw.
The Ministry of Energy has formed a committee to inspect the buildings of the Ministry of Energy including experts , which will conduct survey operations on the offices and staff housing in collaboration with officials of the Myanmar Engineering Council.
In order to continue to carry out the ministry’s tasks without losing momentum, the office buildings and staff housing must be renovated as soon as possible, and in doing so, the state-owned property that can be repaired must be checked and surveyed systematically for an approval from relevant experts to ensure that the State does not incur unnecessary costs, the union minister said.
