Around 100 people die every year in Myanmar due to fires, U Thein Htun Oo, director of the Headquarters of Myanmar Fire Services Department, told One News.

A review of fires in Myanmar over the past 10 years shows that there have been around 1,800 fires every year with an average annual loss of about 15 billion kyats. Among the fires, residential fires are the most common. As a preventive measure, it is necessary to systematically use charcoal stoves, wood stoves and hot plates, U Thein Htun Oo said.
In 2024, there were 1,150 fires across the country leaving 99 dead and 138 injured with a loss of over nine billion kyats.
