World Food Programme (WFP) announced the suspension of food aid for more than one million Myanmar on March 14.
WFP said to stop food aid starting in April due to a shortage of funds.
The WFP statement said it will need US$60 million to continue food aid for the Myanmar people. The suspension of support will have a devastating impact on the most vulnerable communities across Myanmar, said Michael Dunford, WFP Myanmar representative. WFP will be able to continue the support for the most needed people of more than 35,000, including children under 5 years of age, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and disabled persons.

About 20 million Myanmar people need humanitarian aid, and among them, about 15.2 million people need food aid, according to a statement released by WFP on March 14. The situation arose after US President Donald Trump’s administration suspended international aid for 90 days.
