Scaffolding has been erected to inspect the Rajamani Sula Kaungkutaw Pagoda in Sagaing, which was damaged by the recent Mandalay earthquake, according to the Kaungkutaw Pagoda Board of Trustees. Some of the religious buildings within the pagoda precinct were damaged by the earthquake, and the main structure has visible cracks and peeling paint. So the scaffolding was set up under the guidance of the Sitagu Sayadaw to allow experts to conduct a thorough inspection.

The diamond bud of the pagoda was damaged but did not fall to the ground. The four Gandhakutis and four Entrance Pyatthats, which have been in place since the time of King Thalun, will also be inspected by experts. If they can be repaired, the repairs will be carried out; if not, new ones will be constructed. The Board of Trustees stated that other religious buildings within the pagoda’s precinct that were destroyed have been removed and cleaned up.
