The Rakhine traditional events of grinding incense and sprinkling Buddha images with scented water were held on the eve of Thingyan on April 13 at the Rakhine Dhammayon in Bahan Township.
The events were organized by the Rakhine Literature and Culture Association (Yangon) with the collaboration of Rakhine associations.
The Rakhine people hold the events of incense grinding and sprinkling the Buddha images with scented water across the country a day before the Thingyan festival. According to Rakhine tradition, the Thingyan water festival is held only after grinding the incense and sprinkling the Buddha images with the scented water.
U Than Maung, chairman of the Rakhine Literature and Culture Association, said that the events were held to ensure the safety of all people in the world and Myanmar citizens including Rakhine ethnic people.
This year, there is no plan to hold a separate Rakhine traditional Thingyan festival, but to preserve the traditional traditions of the Rakhine people during the Thingyan period, the Rakhine traditional events of grinding incense and sprinkling Buddha images with scented water were held briefly.
