The designation is to protect and preserve cultural heritage areas, and the scope of the designation is to designate the area inside and outside the city walls starting from Taungoo city walls. This designation will help preserve cultural heritage and help local people learn to preserve ancient cultures, said U Htun Htun Lin, deputy director of the Bago Branch of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum.
The old city’s wall is built with more than 38.7 million bricks, and the inside of the brick wall is reinforced with earth to make the city wall stronger while the outside of the city wall is covered with moats. The area where the old city walls and moats of Ketumati are located was designated as a cultural heritage area by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture through Notification No. 2/2025.
