Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator and Head of the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office (UNHCO) said that international pledges to help the earthquake-affected people have so far reached US$93 million.

The statement was made during a recent meeting between Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe and Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator and Head of the UN Humanitarian Coordination Office (UNHCO).

The UN will use $5 million from UN emergency fund and deploy UN staff to implement relief operations. It is also reported that Myanmar and the UN will enhance cooperation in responding to the damage caused by the powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.
