India’s Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Abhay Thakur said he was deeply aware of the challenges Myanmar is facing.
He made the remarks at the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) held at the India Centre in Yangon on April 9.

The earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28 has been a stark reminder of the fragile nature of human life, and the true spirit of India-Myanmar solidarity is being seen at such times. The Indian government has already sent 666 tonnes of emergency relief supplies including food, drinking water, blankets, medical supplies, generators, tents, first aid kits, personal hygiene kits and water purification systems under Operation Brahma, he said.
So far, seven aircraft and six Indian naval ships have delivered humanitarian aid and disaster relief supplies, and over 1,200 patients have been treated at the Indian temporary hospital in Mandalay. Myanmar is a truly special place for India as it lies at the intersection of three of India’s core policies: Neighborhood First, Act East and Indo-Pacific-Myanmar, Mr. Abhay Thakur said.
