The Social Security Board under Ministry of Labor has announced that 278,515 earthquake-affected workers registered with the social security system in six regions and states, including the Naypyidaw Union Territory, will receive 40 percent of benefit based on their wages.
The earthquake-affected workers in the Mandalay earthquake-affected regions of Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Sagaing, Bago, Magway Region, and Shan State will receive this benefit. There are more than 60,000 affected workers in the state sector and more than 200,000 affected workers in the private sector in these six regions. The Social Security Board under Ministry of Labor has announced on May 6 that insured employees affected by earthquakes will get 40% of the benefit as family assistance support for natural disasters. It is also planned to provide online payment systems to insured workers affected by the earthquake.
The insured person’s maximum salary income is fixed at 300,000 kyats in order to guarantee that insured workers who are eligible for benefits receive the subsidy consistently. Therefore, when calculating the 40 percent benefit, if the insured worker earns 300,000 kyats, he will receive a subsidy of 120,000 kyats, and if he earns Ks.200,000, he will receive a subsidy of Ks.80,000.
The Social Security Board has provided Ks.71.019 billion in subsidies to insured workers during the COVID-19 period and Ks.266.297 million those who were affected by floods during Cyclone Ragi.
