More than a thousand persons with disabilities in the areas affected by the Mandalay earthquake have been provided cash assistance, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win said.
The cash assistance providing ceremony was held at the meeting room of the Department of Rehabilitation at 12 pm on May 12.

The Mandalay earthquake affected 1,167 persons with disabilities in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and regions of Mandalay, Bago and Sagaing, and those people were more vulnerable to suffer than any other ones when facing the disaster. Therefore, they were provided cash assistance as a special issue to be a partial welfare support, Union Minister Dr Soe Win said.
In addition, the Department of Rehabilitation has formed a sub-committee on rights of persons with disabilities in situations of natural disaster and other emergency situations and is working on drawing a model process on disaster management and relief measures prioritizing the needs of persons with disabilities.
