Narcotic drugs worth 4.5 billion kyats were seized in Waw Township, Bago Region, on May 8 evening, according to a statement released by the Myanmar Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control on May 11.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of security personnel searched a 12-wheel vehicle driven by a man heading for Hpa-an from Mandalay near Nyaungkhahsay Village in Waw Township at around 3:30 pm on May 8. During the search, three million pills of stimulant drugs worth 4.5 billion kyats were seized from the vehicle, the statement said.

Upon further investigation, the seized drugs were being transported from Shan State to Kayin State for sale. Those arrested will be prosecuted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and the investigation is ongoing to identify the suspects linking the case, according to the statement.
