A drug trafficking gang has been arrested in Yangon Region with more than three tons of methamphetamine (ICE) and 200 kilos of ketamine worth over 96 billion kyats, according to a statement released by the Information Team of the State Administration Council on March 18.
A joint team including members of the Drug Enforcement Division search and raided a warehouse at No. 546/547, Sinphyu Shin Road, Ward 144, Dagon Myothit (South)Township, Yangon Region, on March 6 at 7:30 pm and arrested five people, namely Than Lwin, Wai Yar Aung (aka Thargyi), Thant Kaung Set (aka Paungchain), Yeyint Naing and Hla Than Oo (aka Rakut) along with 1.2 tons of methamphetamine (ICE), a Toyota Hilux, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Mercedes-Benz, the statement said.

Upon further investigation, the drug trafficker Hein Sithu (aka Zaw Zaw Aung or aka Aung Ko Ko or aka Htin Lin Pyae) was arrested at Shukhintha Road, Thakayta Township, and Tin Hla (aka Sathit), contact of reselling the drugs, in Ward 104, Dagon Myothit (South) Township, were arrested. According to the information chain, Kyaw Kyaw Thein (aka Kyaw Kyaw or aka Ahthaylay) was further arrested on Thudhamma Road of North Okkalapa Township with more than one ton of ice and 200 kg of ketamine in the vehicle he was driving. Further interrogation and investigation led to reveal that the people who managed to transport the drugs to Malaysian waters were Ye Win (aka Kyaw Soe Lin), an AA Group’s business in-charge, and his wife, Ma Thida Myint, and could arrest Min Min Soe, who received the drugs in Yangon and was responsible for transporting them to Malaysian waters, in Loilem, Shan State (South), the statement said.

On further investigation, Myo Min Soe (aka Ko Myo), the head person in operating shipment of the drugs to Malaysia was arrested at his residence in Ward 49, Dagon Myothit (North) Township, and accomplices, Kyaw Wai Htun, Thein Htun (aka Thant Zin), Yan Shin Aung and Zaw Zaw Aung, were arrested in Samarduwar Block 4, Seikkyi Khanaungto Township. As it is found that AA’s business in-charge Ye Win (aka Kyaw Soe Lin) and his wife, who have not yet been arrested in the case, are operating vehicle gates in Tanyang, Taunggyi, Mandalay and Yangon with 16 passenger vans they own, action is being taken against then unde the law, and measures are being taken to be able to confisticate financial benefits and assets obtained from the drug trafficking as public funds under the Anti-Money Laundering Law, the statement said.
