The Crested Headdress of the Mahamuni Buddha Image, which was tilted due to the Mandalay earthquake, has been restored to its original shape on April 12, according to the Board of Trustees of the Mahamuni Pagoda.
As the first step in the restoration work, scaffolding was put up on the throne and then repaired by experienced experts to re-erect it.
The Mahamuni Buddha Image was not damaged by the earthquake, but the Crested Headdress, which is made of gold, was tilted.
The Mahamuni Pagoda’s prayer halls, stairways, platform and some satellite pagodas were damaged by the earthquake, about 70 percent of the entire pagoda, were damaged, according to the pagoda board of trustees.
U Mya Win, chairman of the pagoda board of trustees, told One News that measures are being taken to reopen the iconic Mahamuni Pagoda in Mandalay, which was damaged by the earthquake, as soon as possible so that Sanghas and the public can visit it.
