The Ministry of Labour is planning to issue certificate of identity (CI ) cards for 60,000 of Myanmars arriving in Laos without documents, according to the Ministry. In recent days, Minister for Labour Union Minister U Myint Naung and Laos Ambassador to Myanmar H.E Mr. Bounphieng Chanthavong met in Nay Pyi Taw and discussed related to issuance of Cis .
As Laos is a neighbouring country of Myanmar, there are 60,000 Myanmar workers without documents in Laos. Therefore, matters relating to issuance of CI to Myanmars who is without documents using e-ID system with the corporations of ministries, Overseas Worker Identification Cards (OWIC) and matters related to creation of employment opportunities by the Ministry were discussed.
Furthermore, Myanmar-Laos have signed Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation of workers affairs between the two countries in Vientiane, Loas in October, 2024.
