A total of 200 Chinese nationals who were abducted and trafficked to work in online scams and gambling businesses in Shwekokko area, Myawady Township, Kayin State, were revealed and arrested at around 7pm on February 14, and they will be handed over to Chinese authorities, according to a statement released by the Information Team of the State Administration Security Council.
The trafficked victims, 194 men and six women, were lured with a financial incentive to work in Thailand and then abducted to get involved in the online scams.

Taking advantage of the current situation in the border areas, some foreign nationals are being connected with EAOs in the areas. In those areas, self-interested people are involved in operating online scams and gambling. The Government is focusing on searching for, identifying and deporting the people who entered the areas illegally and those involved in the illegal scamming activities, the statement said.
Therefore, the Government is actively cooperating with relevant countries to promptly identify and extradite foreign nationals who have committed fraud, gambling and other crimes in the Shwekokko area and to hand them over to their respective countries in accordance with the procedures, the statement said.
