Member of the State Administration Council Union Minister for Home Affairs General Yar Pyae said that the three countries, Myanmar, China and Thailand, would work together to prevent online scams and gambling in border areas.
He made the remarks at a meeting held at the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw on January 27.

Online scams are not only financial fraud but also related to human trafficking, drugs, forced labor and money laundering. Measures are being taken to help identify foreigners facing difficulties and transfer them to their respective countries and, based on friendship between the two countries, action has not been taken against foreigners who entered Myanmar via border areas through some neighbouring countries, the Union Minister said.
Regarding the online gambling and scams in the border areas, a citizen said he is of the opinion that online scammers are getting and using infrastructure, electricity, basic food and internet connection from the neighboring country while infrastructure and investment operations are being carried out by foreigners.
The “Zin Yaw” joint law enforcement operation being carried out by Myanmar and China has investigated and uncovered 160 cases of telecommunications fraud in the respective countries. More than 70,000 perpetrators have been arrested and 160 Myanmar citizens have been rescued, according to a press release published by the State Administration Council.
