A total of 264.66 billion kyats has been spent for earthquake relief and rehabilitation efforts, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.
Vice-Senior General Soe Win, who is also Chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee, made the remarks at the meeting of the committee held on June 6.
The funds include three-month subsidies for rice, oil, salt, beans and fish paste for more than 130,000 civil servants and their dependents from 45 ministries and organizations, advance funds for construction of temporary buildings in damaged basic education and high schools and funds for the repair of staff housing, office buildings and special buildings. In addition, the Prime Minister has provided 20 billion kyats this month for students who have to retake the university entrance exam due to answer sheets burnt by fire and their teachers, Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.

The cash donations received for relief and rehabilitation efforts have included over 144 billion kyats from local donors and over five million US dollars, five million Korean won, 16 million Indian rupees, two million Thai baht, 3,150 Singapore dollars, 700 Chinese yuan, 250,000 Sri Lankan rupees, 37,000 Nepalese rupees, 3,160 Bangladeshi takas, 979,000 Vietnamese dong, 20,000 Indonesian rupiah, 716,500 Cambodian riels, over seven million Lao kip and over 263,000 Russian rubles, and the State has also contributed additional funds to the Natural Disaster Management Committee, Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.
