State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Defence General Maung Maung Aye emphasized that over 1000 underage soldiers who were mistakenly recruited before reaching the age of majority have been allowed to be withdrawn from Tatmadaw and sent back to their parents/ guardians.
He said so at the meeting of the Committee on the Prevention of Recruitment of Child Soldiers convened on February 6. General Maung Maung Aye said that from 2012 to date, 1,057 underage child soldiers who were mistakenly recruited before reaching the age of majority have been allowed to be withdrawn from Tatmadaw and transferred to their parents in collaboration with the Country Task Force on Monitoring and Reporting (CTFMR).
Tatmadaw manages recruitment systematically to ensure that no one under the age of 18 is recruited. Additionally, further discussions with the CTFMR will be carried out in this month and if someone is found underage, he will be transferred back to his parents/guardians.
