The Information Team of the State Administration Council released a statement on January 20 saying the fight against illegal online gambling must be taken as a national duty, and it is to work together to combat it.
Since those who engage in online gambling and scams are not from Myanmar but are foreigners who entered the country illegally, neighboring countries need to work together in a constructive way to combat it, the statement said.

It is necessary to have access to electricity and internet connection to engage in online gambling and weapons and facilities for illegal businesses, and the online scammers are acquiring and using these facilities based in other countries. The Government has identified illegal immigrants in border areas and transferred them to the relevant countries and keeps taking measures of investigation and scrutiny, the statement said.
According to the statement, those committing online scams and gambling are targeting the areas where law enforcement agencies and administrative officials have difficulties and limitations in fully exercising control and are working in collaboration with self-interested individuals in the areas related to armed groups including some ethnic armed organizations that have signed NCA. Therefore, the State is working together with international organizations to investigate and take decisive action against them, and local organizations and citizens are also urged to report any information about online scams to the relevant authorities.
