MMQR (payment via QR code) that is National QR Standard for digital payment in Myanmar has been available to use, said State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. The MMQR launching ceremony was held on February 27 at the Jade Hall of the Myanmar International Convention Center-1 in Nay Pyi Taw.
The ceremony was opened by SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General, pressing the button. In his opening speech, he said that the national QR code system MMQR, which is a fast and easy payment system that has been implemented in accordance with Myanmar national standards and international standards, has now been launched for the public to use. MMQR can be used in a wide range of businesses, including payments, taxes and meter bill payments, civil servants’ salaries, pensions, tourism, small businesses, petrol stations, private hospitals, schools and consumer goods sales.

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that by establishing the MMQR that is a national standard, our country will be able to conduct international financial transactions and money transfers conveniently and securely on par with other countries.
Afterwards, Daw Than Than Swe, Chairperson of the Central Bank of Myanmar, explained the status of Myanmar’s digital payment system, MMQR. She said that to use MMQR, there is no need to download a separate application, but only to contact the bank or mobile financial institution that he/she currently use or want to use. Most of the currently used mobile banking and mobile wallets are already MMQR certified, so they can be easily used.
