Officials are working together to preserve the original structure of historic Kyaukthitta Pagoda in Kyaukse Township, which was tilted due to the Mandalay earthquake, according to the Kyaukse District Administrator.
Currently, under the direction of geologist Dr. Yu Maung, field suvey is being carried out to determine the hardness of the underlying rocks and the tilt of the pagoda due to the earthquake. The restoration of the pagoda will be carried out in two stages, said U Kaung Myat Naing, the district administrator of Kyaukse. Residents living in the vicinity have been advised to evacuate during the restoration.

U Saw Hla Than, assistant director of the Geological Office, Geology Division, Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management, said that the data obtained from the measurement by the electric wave at the Kyaukthitta pagoda will be presented for further conservation.
The Myanmar Fire Brigade and Parahita organizations in Kyaukse Township are also cooperating in the geophysical survey of the Kyaukthitta Pagoda.
