The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar issued a statement that Myanmar urged the United Nations to support the country’s disaster response efforts through a balanced and practical approach and strengthen its solidarity with the people of Myanmar during the difficult times caused by the natural disaster.
Amid such tragedy, the country continuously faces repeated condemnations from some corners of the world. What the people of Myanmar really need now is a helping hand, assistance, constructive engagement and solidarity, the ministry’s statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged the UN to end the ineffective mandates, such as the Special Rapporteur, which have shown no practical value over the past three decades. On March 28, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, killing more than 3,000 people and damaging infrastructure severely. On the same day, the Chairman of the State Administration Council declared a state of emergency in the severely affected regions — Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway and northeastern Shan State. With the declaration of a state of emergency, the SAC Chairman publicly called for aid and assistance from all willing parties on the same day, the statement said.
The government has mobilized immediate relief operations, including the provision of food, medical assistance, and essential services to the affected regions. Myanmar welcomes the constructive support of the international community including the United Nations and humanitarian organizations in its disaster response efforts. Myanmar expresses its sincere appreciation to all countries and organizations including UN agencies that have extended condolence messages and shown solidarity with Myanmar people in this time of national emergency, the statement said.
