UN Myanmar has announced that it will take immediate action against those selling biscuits supplied by the World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP said it has been aware of social media posts claiming that WFP nutritional biscuits were being sold in Nay Pyi Taw.
The last distribution of the biscuits in Nay Pyi Taw was on April 1, but there was no evidence to support these claims. Humanitarian aid should not be resold, and WFP regularly has been monitoing and will take immediate action if it is found to be being sold, the statement said. The biscuits are an essential humanitarian aid product designed to be consumed immediately in emergencies when it is no longer possible to cook, buy or consume regular food.
The biscuits should not be given to infants under 6 months of age, but infants over 6 months of age can be given the biscuits after they have been fully breastfed. Adults can eat up to five packets of biscuits per day, depending on their hunger level. The World Food Programme (WFP) began distributing the biscuits to the affected population within 48 hours of the earthquake.
