The coming general election can be held in over 100 townships and they were informed to prepare by the Union Election Commission, the political parties told One News. As the election can potencially be held in over 100 townshps out of 330 townships across the country the political parties were informed to carry out preparations.
U Kyaw Swar Soe, Chairman of Myanmar Farmers’ Development Party, said that there was likely to hold bye-elections after the initial general elections were held in over 100 townships that were stable and peaceful. If the general election can be held in more than 100 townships, the targeted members for convening the Hluttaw can be met. The political parties said that the exact date of the election was not yet confirmed and constituencies to be held elections were not announced. The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party Chairman Sai Aik Pao said that since the election has been announced to be held in more than 100 townships, they hope to hold it this year.

There are 54 existing political parties registered with the Union Election Commission, out of which only 9 will compete nationwide, while the rest will compete representing in regions and states. Political parties say that among the nine parties registered to compete nationwide, some do not yet have enough members and party offices across the country. The Union Election Commission has said that preparations should be made in advance as the election is scheduled to be held in 2025 while State Administration Council Chairman Defence Services Commander-in-Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that there were still many challenges to successfully hold the general election at the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) meeting held on January 31.
