The general election date has been set and will be announced in advance in time, the Union Election Commission said. This was a response of the Commission to a question about whether the exact date for the election has been set as the Chairman of the State Administration Council said that the election will be held at the end of December.
The campaign period will be announced following the announcement of the election date and the verification of the Hluttaw candidate list, according to the response. Currently, only three of the nine parties who are planning to organize nationwide are able to open the required number of offices. According to the Political Parties Registration Law, the remaining six parties must occupy the designated number of offices by the day the commission provides the notification and at least ninety days prior to the election date.
Similarly, only 19 of the 45 parties that plan to organize in a single state or region are able to open the required number of offices; the other 26 parties, as required by the Political Parties Registration Law, must finish the required number of offices by the date the commission announces in a notification at least 90 days prior to the election date. According to the commission’s statement, parties in states and regions with limited territorial circumstances are permitted to open temporary joint offices in township offices with adequate security following an assessment of the respective parties’ submissions. Furthermore, political parties have been granted relaxations by the Union Election Commission.
