Chairman of State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that in addition to the First Past The Post (FPTP) system used in previous elections, a Proportional Representation (PR) system will be combined with the Amyotha Hluttaw and State/ Region Hluttaws. Once the unanimous decision is reached to change, widespread information will be shared throughout the country.
He made the remarks at a meeting of the SAC held in the meeting room of the SAC Chairman’s Office in Nay Pyi Taw on March 25 morning. He said that there are about nine months left to make preparations for the general elections and that sufficient time has been given to political parties to register. In addition, Senior General emphasized the need to implement a system for advance voting that ensures it does not disrupt the elections and that all eligible voters have the opportunity to cast their votes.
