About 20,000 buildings affected by the earthquake in Sagaing, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw have been inspected so far, and about 75% of the buildings can be reused, according to the Myanmar Earthquake Committee’s Statement No. 5 on the powerful earthquake.
The Myanmar Earthquake Committee has invited engineers who are willing to volunteer to inspect earthquake-affected buildings and has started forming Earthquake Clinics in the cities such as Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay and Sagaing on April 9.

So far, the Earthquake Clinic’s volunteer engineers have inspected about 20,000 earthquake-affected buildings in Sagaing, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, according to the statement. According to the inspections, 14,604 buildings, 75 percent of the inspected buildings, can be reused, and 3,000 buildings, 15 percent, require detailed inspection. A total of 1,954 buildings, 10 percent of the inspected buildings, require major repairs and renovation, according to the statement.
The inspection of buildings damaged by the earthquake showed that most buildings in Mandalay and Sagaing were fit for habitation (green level) and most buildings in Nay Pyi Taw were unfit for habitation (red level), U Saw Htwe Zaw, vice chairman of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee, said at a talk on collaborative discussion on earthquake disaster reduction.
