1009 Foreign and local prisoners, male and female, were pardoned and released from Insein Prison to mark the independence on January 4, according to Department of Prison. The number of prisoners pardoned and released from Insein Prison included 9 foreigners, 20 Bangali male prisoners and 4 female prisoners, 768 local prisoners and 206 female prisoners, totaling 1009 Prisoners.
The released prisoners were sent to relevant districts and areas in the Yangon Region by YBS buses yesterday afternoon and welcoming family members were found happy.
Similarly, 541 prisoners and 154 female prisoners totaling 695 prisoners were pardoned and released from Mandalay Central Prison, Aung Myay Tharsan Township, Mandalay.
Leader of SAC Information Team General Zaw Min Tun said that among the prisoners pardoned and released in commemoration of Independence Day, there were 600 prisoners prosecuted under Section 505, former Chief Minister of Kachin State U Khet Aung and most of the foreigners are Thai nationals.
Among the prisoners pardoned and released, actress Thinzar Wint Kyaw who was sentenced five years imprisonment under Section 33(a) of the Electronic Communications Act was included but Nan Mway San was not released yet.On January 4, the State Administration Council released pardon orders to release 5864 male and female prisoners, foreigner prisoners, 180 female prisoners serving sentences in prisons, jails and prison camps.
