STORY: While Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica, is sweltering in temperatures reaching 41°C (106°F) on Wednesday (August 14), tourists and locals are flocking to the Adriatic sea to cool down, even if only slightly.
In Sutomore, many tourists descended from the Balkans which is sizzling in its own heatwave. Temperatures were expected to reach 37°C (99°F) in the coastal resort on Wednesday when visitors said it was hard but that they were starting to get used to heatwaves.
One tourist, Suzana came from Sarajevo, in Bosnia, where the mercury was expected to hit the 38°C (100°F) mark on Wednesday.
Heatwave warnings have been issued throughout the Balkans, with temperatures reaching or nearing 40°C (104°F) in Belgrade, Skopje, and Athens, where wildfires reached the suburbs of the Greek capital on Monday (August 12).
