Sirens could be heard on Tuesday (August 6) in Kiryat Shmona, a city in northern Israel as numerous rockets, identified as originating from Lebanon, were launched into the area. According to Israel’s army most of these projectiles were intercepted, while the remaining few fell in open areas, resulting in fires in some areas. Then in response to the attacks, it said, its air force had struck two Hezbollah facilities in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s armed group Hezbollah claimed responsibility for drone attacks earlier in the day targeting northern Israel.
The group warned that the attacks were not its much-anticipated retaliation for Israel’s killing of a top Hezbollah commander last week.
Fears of a full-blown war in the Middle East are intensifying, following Hezbollah’s vows to avenge the killing of commander Fuad Shukr, and Iran’s promise to respond to the assassination in Tehran of the head of Palestinian militant group Hamas last week.
