The Russian Baltic Fleet’s Smolny warship docked in La Guaira, a port city in Venezuela, on Tuesday (August 6) the Russian Embassy in Venezuela said.
The ship’s arrival is part of an initiative to bolster bilateral ties between Russia and Venezuela, encompassing sectors like energy, tourism, agriculture, and economics, amid the political turmoil in Venezuela following the presidential elections last week.
Video obtained by Reuters showed Russian officials on the ship prow before going down to the port.
In July, multiple Russian military vessels anchored in Venezuela, signifying military-technical cooperation between the two nations.
The Smolny ship stopped in Cuba, another key ally of Russia, before arriving in Venezuela.
