Ministry makes call to refrain from dancing and being intoxicated during Thingyan

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture has issued a statement making a call to refrain from characteristics that diminish the value of the Thingyan festival, such as excessive speech, clothing, dancing, excessive drinking, and drug use.
 
The Thingyan festival, Myanmar traditional culture, will be held with the aim of preserving the traditional Myanmar customs and traditions, allowing people to participate in the water festival with joy and peace and preserving the essence of Myanmar traditional culture and national characteristics.
 
Therefore, it is necessary to refrain from acting in a way that is a contrary to Myanmar traditional culture and customs and is considered inappropriate in the eyes of the Myanmar people, to refrain from rude speech, to refrain from violent water games that may endanger others, to refrain from singing, dancing, or acting in a manner that could damage the reputation of others or organizations, and to refrain from wearing clothing that goes beyond the Myanmar culture.
 
Similarly, the Yangon Region Government has issued a series of warnings to drivers during the Myanmar traditional Thingyan festival including not driving under the influence of being intoxicated, not driving in a way of behaving that is inappropriately joyful and not removing the side doors and tailgates of vehicles.
 
The Information Team of the State Administration Council has released a statement that the Myanmar traditional New Year festival, which will be held for the first time as a world intangible cultural heritage, will be organized peacefully and in accordance with Myanmar culture without music and dancing.
