Yangon Region hit the highest record of new confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health.
In the week from June 1 to 8, 2m154 laboratory samples were tested, resulting in 31 new confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Of the new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 15 were found in Yangon, followed by 13 in Tachileik, Shan State, one in Hpa-an, Kayin State, one in Kyunhla, Sagaing Region and one in Kyaikto, Mon State, according to the statement.

The confirmed COVID-19 patient found in Kyaikto, Mon State, was a person who had never been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the Kyaikto Township Health Department.
In the week from May 25 to June 1, 17 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were detected, and all of them were from Yangon Region. COVID-19 infections are on the rise in neighboring Thailand, and COVID-19 cases have been detected in Myanmar since early May. The Ministry of Health has announced that COVID-19 is no longer classified as a global pandemic, but just as an epidemic in the region like seasonal flu.
