According to the Ministry of Health’s statement released at 8 am on May 27, six new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in a week from May 18 to 25.
A total of 2,754 laboratory samples were tested during the week with a positive rate of 0.22 percent and no deaths.
COVID-19 infections are on the rise in neighboring Thailand while COVID-19 cases have also been confirmed in Myanmar this month.

Although the number of COVID-19 cases in the region has increased slightly, XB B and JN.1, current Omicron subvariants of the COVID-19 virus, are genetically modified viruses that do not cause more severe disease and more deaths, Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win said at a meeting held on May 23.
He also said that the current COVID-19 vaccines can effectively reduce the risk of severe disease and death.
