Since Myanmar is located in an earthquake zone, GPS devices have been installed to monitor ground motion, according to the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.
The GPS devices were installed in 2011 in collaboration with EOS, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), and the Myanmar Earthquake Committee, and now 17 GPS-equipped stations are monitoring ground motion. The GPS devices can monitor ground motion that can cause major earthquakes and are mainly installed on the Sagaing Fault as welll as on faults in the townships of Bago, Yamethin, Heho and Loilem.

With the installation of such GPS devices, it is possible to calculate the annual ground motion and the ground motion during an earthquake and to know the direction and speed of the movement. In addition to the 17 stations equipped with ground motion measuring devices in Myanmar, 10 seismometers have also been installed, according to the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.
