Dr. Saw Saimon Tha, a neurosurgeon and founder of the Kwekabaw Hospital in Insein Township, Yangon, passed away on January 18 in Maryland, United States.

Dr. Saw Saimon Tha was 83 years old at the time of his death, and his death is a great loss to the medical community in Myanmar, according to medical professionals. Dr. Saw Saimon Tha was also a mediator in the peace talks between the Karen National Union (KNU) and the Tatmadaw government in 2002-2003.
Dr. Saw Saimon Tha was awarded the Medical Leadership Award by the American biological society. He served as the head of the Department of Neurosurgery and was also the Myanmar representative to the Southeast Asia Neurosurgical Society.
