The three radioactive cancer treatment machines, worth Ks.32.5 billion, have been launched at the National Cancer Treatment Centre and the number of patients treated per day will increase to a total of 400, according to Ministry of Health.
The cancer treatment machines launching ceremony was held on January 21 and attended by Union Minister for Ministry of Health Professor Dr.Thet Khine Win, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and relevant officials. Today, the number non-communicable disease cases and the death rate is rising in the world, said the Union Minister Professor Dr.Thet Khine Win.

The priorities have given for the enhancement of access to high-quality cancer treatment within the country and short-term and long-term plans are being developed and implemented to address the growing need for cancer care services. During the post-COVID-19 recovery period, efforts were made to fully restore the operations of cancer treatment centers. As part of these efforts, new LINAC machines were installed for use – one at Mandalay General Hospital in 2023 and another at Yangon General Hospital in 2024 said the Union Minister.
Beside Public hospitals, five private hospitals have been allowed to practice radiation cancer treatments and they have given treatment for the patients chosen by the Yangon General Hospital and Mandalay General Hospital free of charges.
