The Ministry of Health is stepping up measures of monitoring respiratory diseases caused by Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win said.
As the Ministry of Health is continuously receiving information on international and regional outbreaks, statements and recommendations from the World Health Organization, and is intensifying the disease surveillance, the public does not need to be particularly worried.
Respiratory infections are common during this winter season, and respiratory infections caused by HMPV are also occurring in some neighboring countries, the union minister said.
According to the research data conducted in Myanmar in 2023 and 2024, cases of HMPV virus infection were found among people who visited outpatient clinics, and it can be concluded that body immunity has already developed to the virus, the union minister said.
