The arrival of two new red pandas, a female named Mee Mee and a male named Maung Maung, were welcomed to the red panda exhibit of the Yangon Zoo, according to the administration body of the zoo.

The two red pandas, a male and a female, were transferred from Nay Pyi Taw Zoo to replace the red panda at the Yangon Zoo that died of old age. They arrived at the Nay Pyi Taw Zoo from Myitkyina in 2015. There are still three red pandas left at the Nay Pyi Taw Zoo. The female red panda, Mee Mee, is a dark brown color and is now about 13 years old.

The male red panda, Maung Maung, with a well-known mark of his yellow head is currently about 12 years old. Red pandas live in the far north of Myanmar and along the borders of China and India, and they are considered a rare species in the world. Zoologists have noted that there is a pressing need for conservation of them due to the decline in their current population.
