To celebrate the 78th Union Day, the ethnic peoples’ market festival is being held along with a Thanakha market festival from February 11 to 13 at the Sein Lan So Pyay Garden on Inya Road in Yangon. The festival is open from 10 am to 9 pm with free admission.
The market festivals are taking place with the aim of ensuring awareness of tradition and custom of ethnic peoples and Myanmar cultural heritage. The ethnic peoples’ market festival is annually held, and this year, the event is taking place along with a Thanakha market festival so as to be a support to submitting an application to UNESCO for Myanmar traditional Thanakha to be included in World Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

The festivals are showcasing ethnic peoples’ clothing and traditional food shops along with shops selling traditional Thanaka and cosmetics made from Thanakha. In addition, the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee will hold a performance competition called “ Thwaychin Sonelin Thanakha Thabin” at the event at 4 pm on February 12.
