Public activities are being carried out in various regions and states to be awareness of including the Myanmar’s Thanakha culture in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. The Thanakha culture will be submitted to UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage this year.
Since Thanakha is a tradition that is relevant to everyone regardless of ethnicity, religion and age, the full moon day of Myanmar month of Tabodwe is designated as Myanmar Thanakha Day every year to preserve its cultural heritage.

The people are also working enthusiastically to include the Myanmar Thanakha culture as an intangible cultural heritage in the UNESCO List, Daw Sandar Khin, chairperson of the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, said. As part of the campaign, a Thanakha performance competition was held at the Sein Lan So Pyay Garden on Inya Road, Yangon, on February 1.
Individuals competed in the competition as well as a total of 36 social organizations and groups. On the other hand, social organizations are working to help the Thanakha culture be included in the UNESCO list, and relevant officials are also organizing activities to commemorate Myanmar Thanakha Day at the National Museum, cultural museums and libraries throughout February as Thanakha Week or Thanakha Month.
