The Myanmar Examinations Department has issued a statement saying that the 2025 Matriculation Examination will be re-conducted from June 16 to 21 for regions and states as answer sheets were destroyed by fire due to the Mandalay earthquake.
The main building of Mandalay University collapsed due to the 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered near Mandalay on March 28, causing a fire. It has been announced that 376,956 answer sheets of 6,2954 candidates from Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region and Kachin State were destroyed by the fire. Therefore, the university entrance exam will be re-conducted from June 16 to 21 for the regions and the state without any holidays, according to the statement.
According to the statement, the exam schedule is: Myanmar language subject on June 16, English June 17, Mathematics June 18, Chemistry/Geography June 19, Physics/History June 20 and Biology/Economics June 21. Only those who sat for all subjects in the University Entrance Exam held in March 2025 will be allowed to retake the examination. The list of candidates who will be allowed to retake the exam will be announced at the relevant region and state, district, and township education offices and examination centers.
In Sagaing Region, candidates who took the exam in March at the 10 exam centres : BEHS (Minkin), BEHS (Pansat), BEHS No.1 (Tamu), BEHS No.2 (Shwebo), BEHS No.1 (Ye-U), BEHS (Banmauk), BEHS (Wuntho), BEHS (Mawlaik) and BHES (Kintat), will not have to retake the exam.
However, 31 exam centres will have to be changed in the exam to be re-conducted while the rest will remain as before. The admit cards for the exam are to be collected directly from the relevant university entrance exam supervisors at the exam centres between June 1 and 15, the statement said.
The People’s Pioneer Party has also advised that since the earthquake is an unpredictable, unavoidable natural disaster, re-holding the Grade-12 exam under these circumstances could cause an unnecessary burden on the State and civil servants, especially civil servants, students and parents of students affected by the earthquake.
