Civil servants and people, whose houses are in need of major repairs due to the Mandalay earthquake and face housing difficulties, in Kyaukse District will be allowed to live in modular houses on a rent basis, U Kaung Myat Naing, administrator of Kyaukse District, said.

It is estimated that 50 modular houses will be placed in Kyaukse District, and 15 have been ordered so far. Since the rains will start soon, modular houses are really needed for the earthquake-affected people because they are sheltered, air-tight, and safe, and it is initially planned to place 30 modular houses for Kyaukse Township, 10 for Sintgaing Township, and 10 for Myitthar Township, he said.

The modular houses were ordered from China, and each one costs a total of 12.5 million kyats. The modular houses ordered were donated by the town elderly and businessmen of Kyaukse and entrepreneurs of Sintgaing collectively. Currently, only the initial 15 units have been received, and a donation receiving committee consisting of the town elderly has been formed for the required 35 units and bank accounts have been opened to receive donations.
