Donors are needed to rebuild earthquake-damaged monasteries and nunneries in the Sagaing Hills. Hundreds of monasteries, nunneries and religious buildings in the Sagaing Hill were damaged by the powerful earthquake that struck on March 28, killing hundreds of monks and nuns.

The abbot of Kyimyindaing Chaung Monastery, U Cakkindaka, said that local and foreign donors are needed to rebuild hundreds of monasteries. Monks and nuns whose buildings have collapsed and who have no place to live are temporarily relocated to appropriate places. Daw Parami, a presiding nun of the Thitsar Thingyi Monastery, said that it is not easy to rebuild the damaged monasteries on their own.

In addition, Daw Oattara Thiri, the head nun of Yadanar Shwe Ku Chaung Ye Kyi Monastery, said that help is also needed to clean up the damaged buildings. Although donors have come to donate rice, drinking water and other necessary items to the damaged monasteries and nunneries in the Sagaing Hills, they are reportedly facing difficulties in long-term reconstruction.
