Daw Sandar Khin, Chairwoman of the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, said that preparations to submit Thanakha culture to UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage and the documentation is now 100% completed.
Attempt for Myanmar’s Thanakha culture to be recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage has been started since 2020.

In doing so, the preparations have been continued this year to meet the requirements set by UNESCO and to provide additional evidence of public participation. The final documentation is due on March 31st. Now, along with the document to be submitted to UNESCO, the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Organization will also submit documentary films, said Daw Sandar Khin, Chairwoman of the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Organization.
In order to have Thanakha culture inscribed as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage, the full moon day of Tapotwe has been designated as Myanmar Thanakha Day, and commemorative activities are already taking place in regions and states.

In addition, public opinion surveys have begun to be conducted and the results will be submitted to UNESCO.
